Field Biologist Supervisor (Full Time)
Job Summary:
Field Biologist Supervisor – Responsible for overseeing the Stranding Response team. Coordinate response for dead marine mammals and sea turtles, in addition, to live marine mammals and sea turtles with the local municipality, collect data on species, maintain marine mammal and sea turtle database, keeping in compliance with Federal reporting obligations - provide support to necropsy program - sea turtle husbandry tasks as outlined in Sea Turtle Rehabilitation Task Book, Type I, II, III & IV at the tactical level - coordinate with towns for disposal of examined animals - provide logistical field research and reporting support - provide support to the Education and Outreach Program by conducting lectures and beach cleanups. Manage and conduct ongoing training with field biologists and stranding investigations volunteers, apprentices, and volunteers.
General Accountabilities:
Daily management of Field Biologists/Interns/Apprentices/Volunteers
Coordinate Stranding Investigations staffing schedules
Responsible for signing off on Field Biologist's Tasks Books
Weekly updates and reports to the Stranding/Necropsy Coordinator
Managing calls to the 24-HR New York State Marine Mammal and Sea Turtle Stranding Hotline
Respond to dead and live marine mammals and sea turtles, collect data on species, circumstances of stranding, and life history information
Coordinate with towns for the disposal of examined animals
Maintain marine mammal and sea turtle databases, as well as digital and physical data records
Support the marine mammal and sea turtle necropsy program and related projects
Provide husbandry support to sea turtles when in our critical care triage facility
Provide logistical support in the field on seal and sea turtle health assessment research projects
Provide collection and reporting on research satellite tagging, land, boat, and aerial survey projects
Disseminate project information to the field team and educational staff
Support educational outreach programs to foster marine conservation including leading volunteer training, coordinating volunteers for events, performing lectures, beach cleanups, and leading educational activities such as seal walks and cruises.
Maintain beach cleanup database.
Perform other related duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Experience: minimum 3-5 years in a related field, including demonstrable supervisory or management responsibilities.
Education: bachelor’s degree in marine biology; master’s degree preferred

Hazwoper Training
Must have a valid driver’s license or demonstrate the ability to meet the transportation needs of the position. Travel may be required.
Must be able to lift and move objects up to 50 pounds.
